Review: Karrimor 3 in 1 waterproof jacket

Karrimor 3 in 1 jacket review: A review of Karrimor’s nifty, versatile 3 in 1 jacket, as modelled by the gorge Mary Spender. It’s a bargain, but is it a decent choice for the cold and rain?

Product description: “This new Karrimor 3 in 1 Jacket is ideal for the outdoors, complete with a fleece inner lining with a breathable inner jacket lining – ideal in changeable weather. The Karrimor jacket also features two pockets with an inner compartment, adjustable cuffs and hood offering both functionality and practicality for your adventures, with a 5000mm waterproof/breathability rating to the outer shell.”

In winter weather: A detachable fleece lining makes it quick to convert Karrimor’s 3 in 1 jacket into a simple raincoat or to double up for warmth – very useful when the British weather can’t decide what season it is. The fleece alone is also a nifty layer to have in your wardrobe for winter sports and camping trips, and the breathable nylon outer jacket is ideal on its own for walking and hiking in warmer weather. Zip them together and the jacket is reasonably warm and waterproof, making it a good choice for outdoors adventures in Britain, though perhaps not suited to very cold climes or snow. The hood fits well and the drawcord lets you pull it snug against the rain. The pockets are a decent size, too.

Verdict: Fantastic value for a versatile jacket. It might not withstand multi-day trips out in the elements but it’ll keep you warm and dry on hikes, approaches or just walking the dog. If you don’t already own a versatile fleece and separate raincoat then this is a no-brainer at the price. If you’ve got more dollar to spend, I’d recommend Kathmandu’s handsome 5 in 1 jacket.
