#TALESFROMTHESLOPES

RocketSki are asking skiing and snowboarding fans to share their funniest, scariest or most jaw-dropping stories, and have kicked off by getting none other than pro alpine skier Chemmy Alcott to share her own #TalesFromTheSlopes.

unnamed2-640x609“One of my most memorable #talesfromtheslopes was on a recent photoshoot with Equity, RocketSki’s sister company. I got to spend the day skiing with some inspiring school students and managed to capture this great shot with photographer Pete Goding. After the shot, he was completely covered in snow and looked like a snowman – but I love the picture that came out in the end!”

As for my own #TalesFromTheSlopes? Here are some of my favourite moments.

FOLIE DOUCE: 24460_850368948696_647285413_n
I was initiated into the weird and wonderful world of Folie Douce in Val Thorens. A chilled-out chalet bar that suddenly turns into an on-piste rave at apres-ski o-clock, Folie is a revered institution – where else can you dance up a storm to cheesy club tunes in a 200-strong crowd, whilst getting sprayed with champagne and wobbling precariously on a table in your ski boots? The best bit is trying and failing to ski home afterwards.

SEASON SHENANIGANS: season-614x640
You get a bit cabin feverish when you spend an entire season in the mountains, living in a tiny social bubble with twenty other powder-obsessed seasonnaires, but you quickly learn to make your own fun when you aren’t on the pistes or cleaning toilets. My myriad memories of silly goings on include egg fights in the kitchen, building our own snow jumps in the middle of the night, complicated drinking games using the hotel’s leftover wine and many, many hungover skiing sessions. Good times.

PHOTOSHOOT IN VERBIER: 19320_847017794436_655394498_n2
I was lucky enough to head to Verbier with snowsports photographer Ross Woodhall for a photoshoot for N-Photo magazine. Getting to help a pro capture the incredible feats of athletes as they dropped off cliffs and pulled amazing moves was pretty special, and I learned a lot just from watching Ross work his magic. On the last day Ross lent me his camera and I took this shot of a skier jumping high over the distant mountain line. It might not be the best action photo ever but I love the sense of capturing a moment as he hangs suspended in the air.
