Hardworking staples from Engelbert Strauss

Engelbert Strauss make durable and comfortable work and outdoor clothing that’s less for lumberjack-wannabes like me and more for, you know, actual lumberjacks. Anyway, they stock brilliant cotton staples and rugged footwear at very nice prices. Even better, most of the designs are unisex – no pastel colours in sight!

1. FOREST GREEN PULLOVER, £19.19
Soft on the inside and hardy on the outside, there’s a snuggly fleecy inner layer to this classic round necked sweat. You will NEVER want to take this baby off, and it’s about the become the versatile thing you own – from chilly mornings out in the woods to slung round your shoulders when burning the midnight camping oil, this is a go-anywhere pullover for less than £20. Tidy.

2. ORLANDO PLAID SHIRT, £16.79
Get on the lumberjack style train with a fresh, relaxed check shirt – the perfect thing to sling on for spring. If you discover you can’t live without it there’s a nice navy version too.

3. LONGSLEEVE SHIRT, £10.79
A no-brainer base layer for spring sports and outdoor escapades, this slim-fitting long sleeve jersey top feels light and comfortable on and won’t overheat you. There’s a mid sleeve version too, for warmer weather.

4. POLARIS HIGH BOOT, £119.99
Meet your next all-rounder, all-year, all-weather boot. Waterproof, windproof, breathable and clad in lovely Nubuck leather, the Polaris comes with an insulated insole for the colder months that’s removable on warmer summer treks. Engelbert Strauss design primarily for outdoor workers, so their footwear is built to take serious knocks – these boots are cold and heat resistant with a tough rubber sole and a hard, scuff-resistant toe. And they look brilliant.

5. ES MOTION SHORTS, £39.59
Soft, slim-fot shorts to live in all summer, complete with pockets aplenty, a comfy waistband and a sturdy cotton outer layer that’ll take all manner of mud, sweat and beers. They’re comfy enough to wear climbing and scrambling and nice enough to wear in pub gardens or just with flip-flops on the coast.
