Girls for Sail
The two rules Annie Sullivan has for her female-only sailors are ‘no question is a stupid question’ and ‘no shouting allowed’. Girls for Sail is all about supportive and fun tuition on the seas. I took to the waves last year on a wonderful sail around the British Virgin Islands and came back confident, brown and very very happy. Based on Cowes on the Isle of Wight and born from a desire to show women that sailing needn’t be macho, these chicks are the way to go if you’ve ever wanted to know your stern from your foresail.
Girls for Sail offer Caribbean sailing holidays from £699 and beginner’s weekends in Cowes from £249.

Wild Things’ Wild Woman wilderness escapes
I’m heading to bonny Scotland in August to learn the ways of the wild on the Moray Firth coast with wonderful Wild Things. Instructors take groups of women into the forest and along the coast to brush up their Dora the Explorer skills, including learning how to pick and prepare edible and medicinal herbs, light fires, carve wood and camp out with confidence in the beautiful Highlands. When night falls you can sleep out in a hammock under the starry sky – Outlander, eat your heart out.
Wild Things offer Wild Woman courses in Glen Affric from £150.

Surf Sistas
Epic wave-chasing travel, rad ladies on boards and really nice rash vests – this is the Surf Sista way. Their female-only surf holidays are friendly, relaxed and ideal for beginner and intermediate surfers. Learn to catch a wave on their Cornwall weekenders (you can even travel there from London on the SS surf bus) or perfect your pop-up on a surfari along the tropical beaches of Costa Rica.
Surf Sistas offer weekends away from £230.

Run Mummy Run with JT Expeditions
Don’t be fooled by the name – these fantastic trail running sessions are not just for mamas. Awesome adventure runner Jake Thompsett knows the Brecon Beacons National Park like the back of his hand and takes women-only groups on guided trail runs through its glorious and green wild spaces, along Offa’s Dyke and past gorgeous Llantony Priory. Perfect if your running is a bit rusty, you need help with technique or just want to meet some fit ladies to pound the trails with.
Jake’s next Run Mummy Run event takes place on the 29th May and costs £25.

Yoga with Escape Haven
Namaste! After a paradisical yoga break? Sign up for a Escape Haven’s rather posh women-only week-long yoga camps in in Bali. The ‘Refresh’ package is a week of yoga, meditation, spa access and watersports – sounds pretty heavenly to me. When you aren’t in downward dog you can laze in a pool in a tropical garden, eat organic grub and explore beautiful Bali with your new yoga crew. For something closer to home try one of their pop-ups in Portugal and Morocco.
Escape Haven retreats from $1,795.

Rock and Sun climbing holidays
Get to grips with the rocky cliffs of the Costa Blanca or Haute Provence with a gang of climbing-loving ladies on one of Rock and Sun’s sundrenched holidays. Female instructors will get you focusing on flexibility and stamina as you push your sport grade in the day and there’s plenty of time to chill out with the girls and a beer in the evenings. Watch out for special ‘Climb with your heroes’ (or should that be heroines?) trips featuring champions such as Hazel Findlay.
Rock and Sun provide prices on request.
