At the London Marathon with Pink Lady®

An awe-inspiring day reporting on all the sporting feats of the Virgin Money London Marathon with Pink Lady® Apples, the official apple of the marathon.

Nothing prepares you for the buzz of the London Marathon. The city’s streets are festooned with flags, happy crowds arrive armed with signs and snacks to support the 40,000 runners about to take to the course and across the heart of London the route of the race is empty and waiting for some of the world’s fittest athletes to pound its 26 miles 385 yards of pavement.

I joined Pink Lady®, the official apple of the Marathon, and the lovely Alex of The Lean Lawyer, in the grandstand at the race’s finish, ready to capture all the action, and I live-blogged the day over on Pink Lady®’s facebook page (check out our little videos if you want to see me getting very overexcited). The first ripple of excitement came as as the incredible Mary Keitany approached the finish line, miles ahead of the competition and looking like she hadn’t even broken a sweat at 2hrs 17mins and 1 seconds, a new world record. We watched Alyson Dixon, the first Brit to cross the line, storm home, and Manuela Schar take the title in the women’s wheelchair race. We even got to see them all bedecked with medals right in front of our seats – an incredible inspiring sight.

We weren’t finished cheering yet though – amongst the thousands of runners streaming past on the final straight were the four dashing Pink Lady® apples themselves, dressed in their fetching pink costumes. They all made it across the finish line despite having to run with their arms tucked inside unwieldy foam apple costumes. Total heroes!
