Win a copy of The Girl Outdoors

I still can’t believe I wrote a book! Publishing The Girl Outdoors has been one of the best things ever to happen to me, mainly because of how wonderful it has been to share it with other lovers of the great outdoors. Writing it (all 30,000 words of it!) and seeing it come to life have been a good reminder of how amazing it is to get out and explore wild places, whether you fancy trying a new sport, travelling the world or just going camping for a weekend.

The Girl Outdoors: the wild girl’s guide to adventure, travel and wellbeing is a beginner-friendly bible for all women looking for information and inspiration to get out in the great outdoors, get fit, get healthy and have fun. It’s available on Amazon for £9.74.

If you have a copy, I hope you love it and that it inspires many adventures of all sizes for years to come. If you haven’t, this competition is for you! I have five signed copies to give away.

I want to explore the UK every weekend on my bike! A few weeks ago I spontaneously packed my touring saddle bag and went cycling and camping round the Peak District for a few days. I want to repeat this with more beautiful UK locations (Brecon Beacons, Snowdonia, Lake District, etc) and maybe get in some wild swimming when the weathers good.

I plan to get out there and see some of the best sights in the UK and Wales this year. I want time alone to be around nature and to reflect on my life and where I want it to go. I’ve had a lot of bad things happen in the past but that’s done now, now I want to move on and find my place in life. I think this book would help me work out how to do this. Many thanks.

My adventure this year is going to be to learn to surf! I moved to Cornwall last year and fell in love with paddleboarding, but I’m just in awe of all of the surfers I know. I love the idea that it’s something you can do anywhere, and that you get (I imagine!) such a rush from a great wave. I tried a couple of lessons last year and was beyond bad, but this year I’m planning to head to the north coast as often as I can and just practice, practice, practice until I nail it. After all, I live in this amazing place, so I have the *perfect* opportunity. I’m picturing a Rocky-style montage at the end of the summer.

I’m doing 10km at the Great North Swim next week and currently planning this year’s holiday – cycling the Transpennine Trail! I’ll definitely have lots of mini adventures throughout summer while planning the ride like hiking with my walking group and lots of jumping on trains with my bike for days out. Training for my first triathon in July and my first 10km run in September as well. I expect there’ll be even more openwater swimming somewhere too as I can’t imagine not doing it! It’s going to be a pretty busy summer!

Building on my love of hiking and the outdoors, I am signing up to do my Mountain Leader Award to help me learn more specific mountaineering skills and I have just started wild swimming and biking. I have also just ordered a mountaineering tent so I can embark on wild camping adventures. I am also trying to inspire others around me to make the most of the outdoors and plan an adventure.
