Competition: Win a female fit Osprey Tempest rucksack

To celebrate International Women’s Day I’m giving away an Osprey Tempest rucksack designed to perfectly fit female bodies and ideal for everyday adventures.

WIN AN OSPREY TEMPEST BACKPACK

Not all backpacks are created equal. And they shouldn’t be – men and women have completely different body shapes, and a standard unisex trekking rucksack can end up being pretty uncomfortable, especially over long distances. Enter Osprey, who have been designing female-specific rucksacks for 25 years. Their 41 women’s backpacks come in all sizes but have all been designed with narrower shoulders, shorter back lengths and better fitting hip belts than unisex models.

I’ve been a big fan of Osprey’s female-specific designs for years, and recently took their women’s fit Ariel AG 65 on a six-week trek in the Himalayas. Before I bought my Ariel I read up on read up on how Osprey design their rucksacks to fit the female form, but it’s also instantly noticeable when you put a women’s Osprey model on – the shoulder straps sit in the right places, the hip belt fits perfectly and the weight is evenly distributed across your shoulders and back. I loved that I could adjust the back of my Ariel to get the perfect fit, and I carted my camping kit plus heavy food and water around the Himalayas for over a month with no problems.

If you’re after a backpack for daily use, the iconic Osprey Tempest is the perfect all-rounder. It holds 20 litres of kit, ideal for day hikes, and is sleek and lightweight but still teeming with smart features, including an ergonomically shaped hip belt, plentiful pockets and an adjustable back.

Win an Osprey Tempect rucksack

This competition is now closed.

Liked on Instagram. One of those would make a nice pressie for my climbing and hiking buddy. My useful bit of kit is a shemagh, you can wear it around your head to keep the sun, wind and sand off, or as a scarf or shawl. You can also use it as a picnic rug, towel or even a baby carrier.

Hi Siân! On days when we have no rain and a glimpse of blue sky, I quite often squeeze my climbing shoes and chalk bag into my rucksack as we hike to find places to boulder. The Osprey rucksack looks fab! I already follow your Instagram blog ⛺️ x

Hi Sian, I already follow you on Instagram, my back pack essentials are my bobble hat, cliff bars for an energy snack and water, not only for me but also my four legged friend, Poppy that is with me for every adventure! The osprey tuck sack looks like just what I need!

Been following you on Instagram for a bit now since I enjoy seeing what other girls in Europe are up to outdoor wise. But geez.. the essential thing I pack when I go for a hike? The whole reason I need to bring a good backpack is that I take loads of stuff with me (need a plaster or an extra snack? I’ve got you covered!). Anyway, so I always pack lip balm with SPF, plenty of sweet and savory snacks, water (!), an nowadays my camera ’cause I really want to get better at taking photos of the landscape and my friends who are with me.

Hey! I already follow you on Instagram and love your posts! My essential must-haves are nuts in my front pockets because food is my motivator! Along with hot chocolate in my flask to give me a sugar rush! Not forgetting my trust national trust cap – I might as well promote where I work whilst hiking, right?!

Hey Sian, my must- pack backpack essentials would have to be my tiny stove for a hot chocolate stop on a wild walk and of course some snacks and s’mores. I would also have my hammock and blanket for when I find a hidden gem along my walk, usually by a river or lake and would maybe squeeze in a map to pretend I’m not lost along the way ️

  11. March 8, 2019 / 10:45 pm

Hi! Already following you on Instagram. I can’t go anywhere without some decent coffee and dark chocolate so they definitely have to be packed but if I’m going near any water my trusty swimsuit comes along too…just in case! My usual rucksack has just given up on me so this would be great!

Rucksack essentials are layers. Lots of them. I would love a female fit rucksack. I have scars from the chaffage of a unisex rucksack on Y3P as I have large boobs and unisex rucksacks are really not fit for purpose. Liked you on Instagram 🙂

I follow you on instagram! If I had to choose one essential it would be my recently acquired vaccum waterbottle as I love having warm or hot water when out and about. The next would definitely be a head torch, might not be used but always makes me feel more comfortable having it. I use a different osprey and found it to be the best and only large (over 12L) backpack I have been able to run with, including with shower stuff and clothes on the run commute! The chest, waist, and shoulder straps do really feel different to other backpacks.

It’s got to be emergency snacks to keep up morale and allow me to always go a little further! Love the Osprey range, not lucky enough to own one myself…yet! Only found you on insta a few weeks ago but already love your vibe and how you share. Thank you!!

Hi Sian, my essential backpack is emergency jelly babies, just in case extra food is required but they usually end up getting eaten on the way home also a dry pair of socks to get changed into at the end of the day. I already follow your Instagram and loved your book!

Hi Sîan, followed on Instagram. The Osprey bag looks great- I’m currently lugging around one of those uncomfortable unisex bags so could do with an upgrade. My essentials are: packed lunch and snacks (the important stuff), flask of coffee, water bottle, my buff (so versatile), a torch and a trusty OS map.

Good morning! My backpack essential would have to be…snacks! It’s probably the thing I think about first when packing. Got to keep the energy up! Now I would also add my bamboo travel flask that I was given for Christmas, as tea and snacks is obviously the perfect combo.
I’ve been reading your lovely blog for a while and already follow your on Instagram. Happy hiking

Hi Siân, I already love your instagram blog. My absolute essentials are high factor suncream, multi tasking scarf, plasters, socks, camera, flask of goodness and snacks. I also have to be able to fit nappies, wipes, drinks, snacks and the kitchen sink if our gorgeous and very adventurous toddler is with us, so a sparkly new Osprey Tempest would be a lovely treat! Love what you do, very inspiring!!

Hey! My useful item I always carry is a buff. They are great on a hot day to protect from the sun or hold my hair back from my face or they are always useful in winter to keep my neck head and face warm from the elements. In an emergency they could be used for first aid. They take up such a tiny amount of space too! I already followe you on instagram x

My must-pack backpack essential item has to be a bag of Jelly Babies, I don’t think you can really call it an adventure if you haven’t got a pack in your backpack!

They are the ultimate must-pack item for any trek, wild swim or bivvy.

I’m big into foraging, so apart from a decent rucksack and a waterproof jacket, I bring plenty of collapsible containers and eco bags for stashing my forages for cooking later on, a flask of water, some earmuffs for those windy summits, and a block of solid sunscreen x

    Hello,

I love your blog and Instagram and find it very inspiring. I leave a few safety things always in my rucksack (first aid kit, sun cream, compass). The fun things I have; always a towel (you never know when you will find a place to swim), chocolate and whisky (for when you reach the top of any peak) and if I have space I keep a book in my bag as I think reading in the outdoors is one of the most wonderful things.

Hi Sian, for me it depends on the season. In the summer when it’s warm I crave getting in the water, so usually through in a bikini and towel for what I’d call an emergency must swim situation. All year round I like to have a packed lunch and water bottle on me, & a jumper/hoodie if I’m not already wearing one. Also my phone for pictures and to feel I can touch base if needed. It would be so interesting to see how this backpack is compared to the regular ones. I always have one both for work, commuting & days out. So it would be so handy

  37. March 9, 2019 / 2:46 pm

Hello! My backpack essential is a spare Buff. Over the years, it’s been used as a sling, a filter, a replacement strap for a head torch, a face cloth, a blindfold and even lent out to other hikers met en route – thankfully, I’ve never had to use it as a tourniquet although I believe that’s possible too! Already following your adventures on Instagram. Thanks!

  38. March 9, 2019 / 2:47 pm

Hi, Already follow you on Instagram. I always make sure I have the essentials of coffee and dark chocolate, and if I know we’ll be near any water my swimsuit getss shoved in as well…you never know when the opportunity may arise and there’s nothing more frustrating than not being able to go for a dip! Love the Osprey bags and as I’ve just managed to kill my trusty old rucksack this would be really handy!

Being a nature lover, at the moment I like to pack for a day hike and spotting sesh: maps, a thermos of hot drink, my Klean Kanteen, binoculars, my pocket size bird and flora fauna guides (Attempting to learn more about the great outdoors as I go!) gloves and beanie, lunch and snacks, tissues, lip balm. My husband says I’m a geek, but then secretly joins in trying to identify things on our hikes. Would pack different stuff for camping etc. Already follow you on Instagram! ☀️

I already follow you on Instagram! My main essential is my best friend Barnaby, our three year old sprocker spaniel. He comes on most if not all the little adventures I go on, I’m recently teaching him how to paddle board- he’s a bit more resistant to this than most other things! Other than Barnaby I always like to have a notepad and a pen/ pencil. The Osprey rucksack looks awesome x

Hi, my backpack essential has to be sunscreen, no matter where I am headed. I follow on Instagram x

  54. March 9, 2019 / 11:03 pm

I love this! My go-to must-pack item is always a pack of (biodegradable) wet wipes. Good for disinfecting cuts (which don’t usually require more than a thorough clean), great for a fresh face on a hot day and I’ve even used them to clean my dishes and equipment while on the road and trying to save water. They’re easy to carry and simple to dispose of. A simple, multi-use hack. I try to pack multi-purpose wherever I can.

Hello, I’m still quite new to hiking, fell in love with it last year while discovering Shropshire Hills. The main essentials for me are the waterproofs as the weather can change so quickly, notepad or a book (when having a break it’s lovely to sit on a rock soaking in views and write or read) and of course jelly babies. I already follow you on Instagram:-)

Backpack essentials are always my water bottle, lip balm, KeepCup and SHHHNNNNAAAAACCCKKKKSSS! For when I’m at risk of getting hangry 😉

  60. March 10, 2019 / 8:08 pm

Thor my Labrador. Although he won’t quite fit in my backpack any more, he is my number one essential for adventures.

    March 10, 2019 / 10:47 pm

My friend always brings a “charm item” backpacking — for her it’s a cute mug that weighs way more than I allow my backpacking supplies to weigh, but she gets so much enjoyment out of it! For me, it’s a backup external battery.

Ooo, hmm plenty of layers. Be bold start cold but in Scotland with 4 seasons in one hour you never quite know what the weather will be like in 45 minutes never mind after lunch. Plenty of snacks too! A false summit was always when my mum would pull out the custard creams to lift the family spirits to get us to the top, it might not be custard creams these days but always plenty of snacks, food always tastes better outdoors! Your least favourite sandwich filling is Michelin starred on the side of a hill! Thats two essentials but you can’t beat em!

Hi, I’m already following you on IG (littlemonks). My essentials are a spork, my little lumix camera, mints, my trusty old flask and a bright pink Sprayway fleece. I think I’m sounding old so I’ll leave it at that!

Essential packing is my Tilly hat. It’s 16 years old and still going strong despite many dunkings when capsizing my dinghy.

Following you on Instagram is that the same as like?

  68. March 17, 2019 / 2:27 pm

Hi Sian, I always bring a sketchbook – just in case 🙂 have liked on Instagram too. Being extremely short – it would be fab to have a rucksack that fit me for once!

  69. Lucy
    March 18, 2019 / 1:20 pm

I always pack water wherever I go but it’s doubly important when hiking! I will normally also take tissues, a few first aid items such as plasters, money (to stop at a pub or for tea and cake), sunglasses (ever the optimist!) and an emergency chocolate bar! I will quite often also have an extra layer of clothing just in case! Lucy

  70. March 18, 2019 / 2:11 pm

Hi liked and following….I’d love a lightweight backpack as mine has straps like razors. If I won i’d fill it with:
Snickers, several of them. Dr Hauschka lip balm (perfect for all weathers and it works). Sunglasses, a micro towel for picnics and the odd dip, a chilli water water bottle to stay hydrated, a penknife and binoculars or a camera so you don’t miss anything, a map so you don’t get lost and can find the pub. Oh, and blister plasters – just incase.

Hey Siân! Liked on Instagram – really enjoying your pics and the blog. My backpack essentials are probably a cute bobble hat and gloves most of the year round (amazing how the chill factor can set in with just a bit of altitude or exposure!!), but also sunglasses and the very important Factor 50. And no, with my pale Irish skin that’s definitely not a contradiction!! Always got a bar of chocolate in there too for those pick-me-up moments. I’m currently saving up for a larger Osprey hiking rucksack for walking the Tour du Mont Blanc later this year, but it would be amazing to win the Tempest for use on all the day hikes I’ll be doing as part of my training between now and then! 🙂

Hello Siân :)) Don’t know if I’m too late to enter, but I’m following you on Instagram. UNO is a must have in my rucksack for a quick game of cards while hiding from the rain in a tent or over a lunch break. I’m going interrailing this summer and this bag would be a perfect daysack (for the classic one bag on the front, another on the back )

Definitely, my camera, to capture amazing scenery and help create brilliant memories.
