Got me some new hiking boots! Here’s my Merrell Grassbow Mid Sport boots review. They’re £120. They’re super lightweight (1.4lb, which is less than half a bag of sugar). They’re waterproof. And they have nice laces.
Hiking in hot weather: The Grassbows are instantly comfortable, with air cushioned heels which absorb shocks and keep you stable. The longer your hike, the more you’ll appreciate how little they weigh – you can just lace them up and then forget all about them, making them perfect for scrambling over rocks and down scree.
Hiking in wet weather: I wore my Grassbows in driving rain and screaming wind up a misty mountain in Scotland, and their Gore-Tex magic fought valiently against what was essentially a waterfall of water. Inevitably, rivulets of rain from my sodden trousers (and jacket, and eyebrows) ran into my socks and I ended up with damp feet, but the Grassbows did dry pretty quickly, ready for the next day of (mercifully less torrential) hiking.
Verdict: At just 1lb 4ozs, these are featherlights in the hiking boot game, but that doesn’t seem to mean any compromise in comfort and water resistance. Perfect for summer hiking and travelling, they’ll give you the freedom to explore without letting you down in sudden showers. I’m a fan of the sky blue detailing on my pair but they also come in charcoal. Oh, and they’re vegan friendly, if that’s something that keeps you up at night.
