Hitting the slopes to test out Electric’s EG3.5 ski and snowboard goggles, £109 from The Board Basement.

On the slopes: Oh hello, handsome. These rather slick goggles from Electric go for the logic that bigger must surely be better when it comes to lenses, and give you a generous wraparound view of the slopes. But the standout factor for me was how comfortable they were to wear all day – the straps sit well on helmets or beanies, the foam-lined frame stays put on your face and the lens protects your eyes from glare and stays fog free, no matter how often you faceplant into powder.
In changing conditions: The Electrics’ all-black lens is an absolute beauty for bright sunshine, and packs 100% UV protection. Plus, each pair of Electrics comes with a spare clear yellow lens for flat light, a bit of a lifesaver when bright sunshine is suddenly replaced by fog the texture of pea soup. Swapping lenses is so quick you can do it on a chair lift – just pop out the first lens and pop in the second. The only downside to the replaceable lens sitch is that if you grab your goggles in a hurry (or when wearing enormous snow mitts) it’s easy to accidentally pull off the lens. Not so great, until you get used to sliding them on and off your face carefully. Spare lenses are available for £40 – I’d plump for adding bronze to your lineup, as it’s a good all-rounder for mixed weather days.
Verdict: A seriously comfortable and high performing lens with slick looks – worth heading north of £100 for. And if you aren’t a fan of pink, there are rather less girly blue and black straps on offer.
