My idea of a nice jog is definitely less pounding the pavements and more getting lost in the woods (and covered in mud in the process). I’ve been very good at training for my fast-approaching Endurance Life coastal trail run in Exmoor this weekend, so I’m rewarding myself with some of this lovely trail running kit.
Trail running kit
1. BAM placket top, £34:
It’s a top! Made from bamboo! Genius. Ultra comfy, organic and highly breathable, bamboo is a bit of a dream material for sports wear. I love BAM’s whole collection (check out their great baselayers) but this 3/4 sleeve buttoned top is my top pick – warm and comfy in the office, light and breathable when you’re out running.
2. Vivo Trailfreak ladies trail running shoee, £85:
Vivo have upped the game with the new TrailFreak barefoot trail running shoe. A naturally wide, breathable design lets toes splay and perfectly distributes your weight across the entire foot, whilst the grippy sole will let you leap over rocks and dash through wet mud slip-free. I especially love the quick-draw laces which let you adjust the shoes perfectly to your feet.
3. Sweaty Betty Zero Gravity tights, £85:
I could bang on about how these fantastic tights are warm, quick-drying, stretchy and comfortable even after a 10k mud run, but really I’m in love with their gorgeous geometric print, inspired by antique navigational charts. They glow in the dark, too!
4. Panache sports bra, from £18:
My absolute favourite sports bra ever will keep your ta-tas nicely supported, whatever crazy adventures you’re into. This coral striped one is so pretty it’s seems a shame to cover it up with clothes…
5. Vibram Fivefingers from E-Outdoor, £75.65:
The rather bizarre-looking Fivefingers are like Marmite – you’ll either love how they let you connect with the ground and spread balance out through the toes, or you’ll think they look a bit too disturbing to put your feet into. Personally I love them – they feel like wearing wetsuit booties and they let you run free, in the manner of a gazelle. If they aren’t quite your thing, the fantastic E-Outdoor stocks tons of more traditional trail shoe options.
6. The North Face split shorts from E-Outdoor, £28:
Virtually weightless, fast-wicking material, a stretchy waistband and zipped pocket make these cute shorts perfect for running longer distances. Wear on their own in the summer or over running tights in the winter.
7. Jack Wolfskin flyweight jacket, £80:
The Flyweight fits super slim by avoiding hip pockets (there’s a zipped chest pocket instead), which is useful because we all like to pretend in our heads that we look as streamlined as Usain Bolt, right?
